Grant helps city get new traffic signals

The Kent Police Department announced today it was installing more flashing signals near school zones throughout the city.

The department and the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission will buy the signals using funds from a traffic safety grant, according to a city news release.

The high-visibility signals will be installed near elementary school and will augment “reduced speed” signs in the areas. Ten local school zones already use the flashing signs, and this new grant will allow the department to expand the network to include Kent, Scenic Hill and Meadow Ridge elementary schools.

The new signals are scheduled to be in place by the end of October.
