East Texas man arrested in connection with August homicide | News
UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV)-An East Texas man has now been charged in connection with a murder that occurred in August.
According to the Upshur County Sheriff's Department, 58-year-old Douglas Edward Gilliam of Gilmer has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Jack Eugene Pierce, 45.
Gilliam was arrested August 28 on unrelated charges after fleeing from Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on Farm to Market 2454 between Gilmer and Pittsburg. He was held in the Upshur County Jail and charged with murder September 6 after deputies obtained an additional warrant for the charge.
Pierce's body was found August 26 at a home in southwestern Upshur County. Officers were originally dispatched to the home in response to a welfare concern. Evidence found at the home led deputies to become suspicious and investigators with the sheriff's office were called to the scene.
Gilliam has previously been arrested five times in the same county on charges of assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence, DWI, and possession of marijuana.
The case is still being investigated by the Upshur County Sheriff's Office.
